The Art Alliance of Monmouth County Gallery, 33 Monmouth St., Red Bank, will hold the opening reception for its October exhibit 6-8 p.m. Oct. 3. The themes of this month's exhibit are "Friends" and "Nature." The exhibit will include work from members of the Art Alliance and will be juried by the window artist Edith Hodges-Pleztner from Summit. The exhibit will close on Oct. 24.

Admission to the gallery is free to the public and is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

The Monmouth County Genealogy Society will present a two-session series of workshops dealing with research skills needed by beginning genealogy researchers 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 3 and Nov. 7. The first session will deal with genealogy myths, vital records, citing sources, city directories, probate records, church and cemetery records and obituaries. The Nov. 7 session will deal with citing sources on the Internet, getting organized, using the Internet, family history centers, census records, Ancestry.com and federal military records. The Shrewsbury Players, a dessert theater now in its 12th season will present Tennessee Williams' hit, "A Streetcar Named Desire," on Oct. 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 8 p.m. and at 3 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 25. Directed by Steve Hirsekorn, the play stars Jeff Caplan as Stanley, Samantha Ambler as Stella and Tammy Owens as Blanche.

The theater is located at the Presbyterian Church House, 352 Sycamore Ave., Shrewsbury. Admission, including dessert and refreshments, is $20 for adults and $16 for students and seniors.

The Monmouth Camera Club will present a photography exhibit Oct. 8-Nov. 2 at the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library, 1001 Route 35, Shrewsbury. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

The Jersey Shore Parents, Friends & Families of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG) will sponsor the presentation "Bias, Prejudice and Stereotypes Directed at the LGBTI Community" at 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Monmouth County Library Eastern Branch, 1001 Route 35, Shrewsbury. Speakers include Detective David D'Amico of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, and Jane Denny of the Holocaust Genocide & Human Rights Education Center, Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown.

The PFLAG support group will meet 7-9 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Presbyterian Church House, 352 Sycamore Ave., Shrewsbury. The meetings offer support, education and advocacy for parents, family and friends of lesbians and gays, bisexuals, and transgender and intersex people.
