YMCA boys team places 2nd in national meets
RED BANK — The Community YMCA Red Bank Swim Team, led by coach Jack Caucino, once again excelled at the national level by capturing 7th place overall at the 2009 YMCA Long Course Nationals held at the University of Maryland July 28 -31.
With their highest finish ever, the Red Bank Boys team won second place out of 148 teams competing with a total of 286 points.
Harrision Cefalo, of Christian Brothers Academy, was top medalist at the meets for Red Bank, capturing first place in three events and breaking a previous record held by Olympic Medalist and local resident Tom Wilkens.
Also earning All American status (within top 16 of an event) for the YMCA are, Individuals:
Harrison Cefalo, 1st 50 breast, 1st 200 breast, 1st 100 breast, 8th 200 IM;
Greg Daniele, 6th 50 fly, 6th 100 fly, 8th 100 free, 9th 50 free;
Alex Fitton, 5th 100 fly, 7th 50 fly, 15th 50 breast; TJ McCarthy, 2nd 50 fly;
Lisa Zhang, 15th 50 fly
Relays, Boys:
3rd — 200 medley relay, Charlie Wu, Cefalo, Fitton, Greg Daniele;
3rd — 400 medley relay, Charlie Wu, Cefalo, Fitton, Daniele;
4th — 200 free relay, Cefalo, McCarthy, Daniele, Fitton;
4th — 400 free relay, Cefalo, McCarthy, Daniele, Fitton;
Girls: 13th — 200 free relay, Sarah Finn, Lisa Zhang, Kelly Markwell, Maureen McKenna.
