      St. James School hosts open house Oct. 18
            RED BANK — Saint James Elementary School, 30 Peters Place, will host an open house for prospective families at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, for preschool, kindergarten and first through fifth grades. Saint James School is celebrating 130 years of excellence in education and Christian faith, tradition and values.

      BBBSMC 'Matching Smiles Gala,' Oct. 16
            Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County (BBBSMC), Eatontown, will hold its 11th annual "Matching Smiles Gala," 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Spring Lake Golf Club, Spring Lake Heights. This year's theme is disco, and the event will feature a cocktail reception, open bar, live and silent auctions, dinner, '70s-style dancing and entertainment.

      Author of '4th of July Asbury Park,' to speak
            Brookdale Community College's Jacob Needle Lecture in History Series will welcome author Daniel Wolff 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at the college's Warner Student Life Center, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown. Wolff will speak on his work, "4th of July Asbury Park: A History of the Promised Land.

      Audubon meeting, bird walk slated
            The Monmouth County Audubon Society will meet at 8 p.m. Oct. 14 at Trinity Episcopal Church, White Street, Red Bank. Wildlife rehabilitator and master bird bander Giselle Chazotte Smisko will present "Chimney Swift Conservation" at the free meeting, which is open to the public. She will present the challenges faced by chimney swifts today.

      Open house at Ranney School on Oct. 10
            Ranney School, Tinton Falls, will be holding its first open house of the year 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 10. Prospective families will learn about the campus community via tours of the school's 60-acre campus, visiting classrooms and meeting with students, teachers and administration. The remaining open houses for the academic year will be Nov. 21, Jan. 9 and Feb.

      Raffle tickets on sale for BBBSMC vacation
            Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County (BBBSMC) is now selling raffle tickets for a $2,000 eight-day, seven-night condominium vacation. Tickets are $25 each, and the winner will be announced at the BBBSMC gala Oct. 16 at Spring Lake Golf Club (winner need not be present).
