      Christmas trees, gifts sought for military

      Crossroads Assembly of God Church, 7 Main St., Englishtown, is seek donations of artificial Christmas trees, lights, ornaments and decorations, tinsel and garland as part of its "Operation Christmas Tree!" drive. The donations will be delivered via military sleds to the troops overseas and to military families in New Jersey.

      Donations of gifts for the soldiers, such as phone cards, toiletries, baby wipes, antibacterial hand sanitizers, DVDs, books, magazines, games, stationery and presents for the soldiers' children will also be accepted.

      The military is dedicated to delivering the gifts to military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, local veterans' medical centers, and to families of deployed military in the area.

      Only new, boxed trees that are 2 to 4 feet high can be accepted. All packaged gifts should be labeled with the contents and the intended recipient (male, female, soldier, child, age, etc.) Donations can be made to Crossroads Assembly of God Church and are tax-deductible. Organizers hope to have the majority of items ready to deliver to the military by Thanksgiving weekend.
