SeaStreak and NJNG thanked for their help

Iapplaud the efforts of SeaStreak and New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) for providing financial relief to their customers during these trying times.

SeaStreak ferry has decided to lower their base fair rates to reflect the drop in fuel costs. As of Dec. 1, they also agreed to one fixed round ticket price for all departures, from all locations, seven days a week.

New Jersey Natural Gas recently announced that they would provide customers with a credit for their utility bills during the months of January and February 2009. The company predicted that these savings would credit the average customer about $70 and result in a total of $30 million in savings statewide.

During the holiday season, families all over the country are feeling the effects of this recession more than ever. Many people are struggling to pay bills and make ends meet, making gift buying and traveling a challenge. It is commendable that businesses are coming up with creative ways to accommodate the needs of their customers as the cost of living continues to rise and the job market continues to decline.

I commend these organizations for stepping up to the plate by helping to provide the financial relief that is desperately needed. I strongly encourage other companies consider similar initiatives if possible to make their products and services more affordable to the struggling families who are in desperate need of assistance. In the meantime, I will continue to advocate in the Legislature for lower taxes on individuals and businesses to help make our state and Monmouth County more affordable.
