Referendum needed to dissolve COAH In reference to your letter to the editor, The Hub, Jan. 29, "Public should be able to make decision on housing choice" by Linda Zucaro, I agree with that statement wholeheartedly. Our country was founded on the principle of freedom of choice, freedom to determine our destiny without government intervention, the freedom to save and be frugal to purchase land in an area of our choice. New Jersey will flourish with boundless enterprise and prosperity if the initiative of the people is allowed to expand and taxes areminimal. Americans are among the most creative people in the world. However, I disagree with Linda Zucaro with how to achieve a housing choice for the residents of New Jersey. When the government, under COAH, tells every community in the state what their requirements are or be penalized — even in towns that have no area of expansion or low-income jobs — this is government control that costs taxpayers and removes the freedom for the town to develop in a natural way. There is talk of using open space for COAH construction. This would be a dishonor to the people paying taxes for open space. The public vote was for open space. I feel COAH should be rescinded by a vote from our New Jersey legislators and allow free enterprise to fill the needs of the people. Gov. Corzine is trying to bankruptNewJersey as much as possible before his term ends.
Let's open our eyes and voice our wishes to our legislators that we want our freedom returned to the people. |
