The friends at Luther Memorial Preschool, Tinton Falls, celebrated Earth Day with a week-long recycling event April 27-May 1. There were stories, songs and puppet shows. Each child was asked to bring in items that could be recycled, and each class created a piece of artwork from those items. One class made an airport, another an amusement park. The 4-year-old class made a terrarium from plastic soda bottles.
The Chelsea at Tinton Falls, 1 Hartford Drive, will collect food for a statewide drive to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey on May 23-July 5. Residents may drop off the following types of food to the main lobby: canned fish/meat, powdered milk and infant formulas, boxed meals (pasta, potatoes, rice), canned meals (macaroni & cheese, chili, stews, meaty soups), peanut butter (plastic jars only, please), and canned fruit and vegetables. The Borough of Rumson will hold its annual Memorial Day parade and service 10 a.m. May 25. The parade will march east on Blackpoint Road to River Road, and on to Victory Park. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Victory Park, followed by the placing of the wreaths.

Kandra Vuono, Wall, a second-grade teacher at St. Rose Grammar School, Belmar, has been named as the school's Catholic School Educator of the Year. She began her career at Shrewsbury Borough School, teaching grades one through three. She joined St. Rose in 1992. St. Rose serves students from area towns including Ocean and Tinton Falls.

The Lincroft Chapter of UNICO will host its second annual Day at the Races 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 30 at Monmouth Park Racetrack, Oceanport. The event will feature a barbecue lunch and races. For information, contact Bernadette at hockeymom817@verizon. net or Anthony at anatara3@verizon.net.

The Woman's Club of Little Silver, 111 Church St., has sent another $1,500 worth of telephone cards to men and women serving in Afghanistan as a result of its fundraising.

The new officers installed at the club's dinner meeting are: Fran Katzenberger, president; Kathy Doty, vice president; Madeline Ottino, recording secretary; Joanne Bennett, corresponding secretary; and Margaret Warga, financial secretary.
