Genealogy workshop at Red Bank Library

RED BANK — Monmouth County historian, author and professional genealogist George Joynson will present a two-part genealogy workshop at the Red Bank Public Library on July 9 and 16 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The workshop is free, and registration is not required.

At the first session, Joynson will introduce the basics of genealogical research, including where to start searching and how to document, organize and present findings. He will review the use of local, state and Internet resources and will discuss finding birth, marriage and death records as well as the use of free online digitized newspapers, census returns, ship passenger logs and gravestones.

At the second session, he will cover advanced issues in genealogical research, such as misspellings, conflicting information, and military and occupation records, andwill describe unusual sources, including court records, coroner reports and bottler licenses.

At this session, Joynson will also offer suggestions on applications to the Daughters of the American Revolution, First Families of Monmouth County, the Norwegian Heritage Society, and other heritage associations, and will provide tips for researching a house, property transfer deed, and chain of ownership.

Each session in this workshop will include time for problem solving and questions on research.
