Register for Kortney's Challenge by Aug. 21

The Kortney Rose Foundation (KRF) will host the fourth annual Kortney's Challenge Two-Mile Fun Walk/Run on Aug. 30 at Monmouth Park, Oceanport. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and the race will start at 10 a.m. Individuals may preregister by Aug. 21 or register on the day of the race.

Children's activities begin 11:30 a.m. and include pony rides and face painting. All participants will receive a medal, and awards will go to the top five overall males/females. The race entry fee includes admission to the racetrack. The race/walk fee is $8 for children age 12 and younger, and $15 for age 13 and older, and includes a T-shirt for individuals preregistered (Tshirts will be given to race-day registrants while supply lasts).

New this year is a Day at the Races in conjunction with the Oceanport Policemen's Benevolent Association. Kids younger than age 14 will be admitted free, and the fee for race/walk participants is $15 for food, beverage and a racing program. Nonparticipants age 14 and older are $25 each.

Kortney Rose Gillette, Oceanport, age 9, died in 2006 after being diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer. In addition to raising funds, all miles walked will be donated to the International Brain Tumor Alliance's Walk Around the World for Brain Tumors.
