Firefighters March part of Belmar St. Patrick’s Day parade Firefighters from Monmouth and Ocean counties and throughout the state are being invited to join the Firefighters March in the Belmar St. Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday, March 7. The march continues a memorial tradition begun following the Sept. 11, 2001, deaths of 343 members of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). The Firefighters March honors the memory of fallen Monmouth County brothers, firefighters from around the state who died in the line of duty as well as the members of the FDNY who died on 9/11. The Union County Police and Fire Pipes and Drums, the Bradley Beach Fire Department and the Wanamassa Fire Department Color Guards will lead the marchers. The annual tribute is organized by the South Monmouth County Fire Chiefs Association. The march has the support and participation of numerous fire departments and fire chiefs’ associations. In past years, firefighters from throughout the state and members of the FDNY have participated in the event. Individual firefighters are also welcome to join the tribute march, which is being planned by a committee of fire chiefs and ex-chiefs. There will be a brief memorial tribute dedication ceremony at the paradereviewing stand. Fire departments or firefighters wishing to participate are invited to contact Chairman Robert Jenkins for information at 732- 292-1100, ext. 12. |
