EGA to host ‘A Celebration of Stitches’

The Monmouth Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA) will host a free exhibit of fine needle and fiber arts, “A Celebration of Stitches,” on Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Middletown Arts Center, 36 Church St., Middletown.

“America the Beautiful” tapestry “America the Beautiful” tapestry The exhibit will showcase various needlework styles, including canvas work, crewel, beading, quilting and counted thread. Embroidery demonstrations and a gift boutique will be available. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

A highlight of the exhibit will be the Embroiderers’ Guild of America’s fivepanel national tapestry, “America the Beautiful,” which depicts animals, plants and geographical features of each state. Each tapestry panel is 2 feet wide by 4 feet high and was stitched by more than 500 EGA members from across the nation.

Through its 345 chapters across the country, EGA fosters education, preservation and research of the needle arts and encourages members to develop artistic skill and share their love of embroidery techniques.
