The Monmouth County Office on Aging will host a free Caregiver Information Fair 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 18 at the Middletown Township Public Library, 55 New Monmouth Road. The purpose is to connect caregivers with service providers who will be able to distribute information about services involving care for the aged and how to access those services. Among the services included are adult day care, respite care and home health agencies.

Daylily Day will be held at Deep Cut Gardens, 352 Red Hill Road, Middletown, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 26. Early cultivars will be on display along with advice, handouts and catalogs. Celebrate “Liberty Extravaganza” July 4 at the First Presbyterian Church, 255 Harding Road, Red Bank. Festivities begin with a strawberry festival at 5 p.m. For a $5 donation, enjoy a strawberry dessert with ice cream while listening to live music. Students in grades 4-8 from the Rumson Country Day School (RCDS) recently participated in an essay/poem contest sponsored by the Rumson Garden Club in conjunction with the Garden Club of America. The main topic was trees and their importance to the environment.

Students from RCDS placed first in the fourth-grade competition, first and second in the fifth-grade contest, second and third in the sixth-grade contest, tied for third place in the seventh-grade contest, and won first, second and third place in the eighthgrade competition.

Holiday Express received the Circle of Excellence Award for Community Service from the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce June 3. The award is designed to foster public awareness of the service and leadership that Holiday Express has demonstrated. Tim McLoone, founder of Holiday Express, accepted the award on behalf of the nonprofit group, which delivers music, food, gifts, financial support and friendship to those with the greatest need during the holiday season and throughout the year. The Garden Club of Fair Haven held its monthly meeting June 2 at the Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury. The club’s new officers were installed by Mary Warshauer, president of the Garden Club of New Jersey and past president and member of the Garden Club of Fair Haven. The club’s officers for 2010-11 are Cassy Abel, president; Terry Simboli, vice president; Kathy Gahn, recording secretary; Judy McMaster, corresponding secretary and Barbara Carton-Riker, treasurer. The next regular meeting will be held at noon Sept. 8 at the Youth Center. All are welcome.

***** Reid Henderson, a student at Red Bank Regional High School, was one of 10 finalists at the English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition held April 26 at Lincoln Center in New York City. Henderson, of Avon, won the ESU Monmouth County Branch regional competition held at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, and was one of 58 winners of ESU branch competitions nationwide. In progressive competition levels, students memorize, interpret and perform Shakespearean monologues and sonnets. As the winner of a local English-Speaking Union Branch Competition, Reid was awarded the trip to New York City for the final stage of the competition.
