Celebrate summer with SWAG

SWAG, the Shore Women’s Abstract Gallery in Asbury Park, will celebrate the summer season with gatherings, collaborative art projects and the release of a special DVD.

Receptions will be held Saturdays, July 10 and July 24, from 6-9 p.m.

The exhibition for the season, “Summer Lights,” includes work by all eight members of the SWAG. A percentage of sales will be shared with The Center in Asbury Park, a nonprofit that provides food, clothing, shelter and many forms of care for people affected by HIV/AIDS.

Two collaborative paintings will go to benefit The Center. The gallery collective will create the first painting. For the second, the public will be invited to participate. Then the works will be raffled off at the third gathering of the season on July 24.

The July 24 reception will also feature the release of a “Move ‘n’Art” DVD with images of both collaborative works. All proceeds of sales of the DVD will go to The Center. The DVDs contain images of artwork for flat-screen TVs and can be played to slowly pan over the image to provide a background for entertaining or relaxation.

SWAG opened in October as a cooperative gallery with eight member artists. Most exhibitions are scheduled monthly, with one member featured for the month, and a percentage of sales go to an organization of the featured artist’s choice.

For the summer months of June and July, the gallery has a casual exhibition of all gallery artists’ work.

Gallery hours for the summer are Wednesday-Thursday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.; Friday-Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. at The Shoppes at the Arcade No. 6, 658 Cookman Ave., Asbury Park. For information, call 732-870-8351 or visit www.swagallery.com.
