‘Eye+Ear: Recent Concert Poster Design’

FrameWorks Gallery in Red Bank is hosting an exhibit that showcases the work of artists and design studios that have created a unique and highly individual style based on the idea of the music concert poster as art.

“Gator” “Gator” “Eye+Ear: Recent Concert Poster Design” will run through Aug. 14 at FrameWorks, located at 160 Monmouth St.

From its early popularity in the 1960s promoting counter-culture scenes and sounds, the music poster has evolved with the times, recording the aesthetic changes of each generation and musical ripple. From punk to hip hop, it is the poster artist’s challenge to create a visual “sound” that works in harmony with the music and the audience — eye+ear.

The group of prints in the exhibit shows a wide range of individual and artistic techniques. Some posters feature designs for live performances by Patti Smith, Wilco and Gomez, but it is among the less recognized acts — The Black Keys, Biclops, Andrew Bird, St. Vincent, and The Jesus Lizard — that current “gigposter” artists find a kindred, inspired muse.
