Fair Haven PTA Harvest Fest Oct. 2 FAIR HAVEN — Scarecrows appearing on the borough’s River Road mean only one thing — it’s time for Harvest Fest. The annual fall celebration will take place on the grounds of Knollwood School, Hance Road, on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Children and parents anticipate this family event, which this year will feature many new games and events, plus the popular pony rides, pumpkin decorating contest and apple pie bake-off. Special faculty and the PTA will judge the pies; entry fees are $2 each. Contact Jen Halcrow at jhalc1@verizon. net for more information. Homemade baked goods and other carnival style treats are also offered throughout the day to hungry attendees. Once a small event held at the Fair Haven Firehouse, Harvest Fest has become a Fair Haven tradition, which takes hundreds of volunteers to make happen. Event sponsors are thanked in a very public way, with large scarecrows advertising their business or family support hung along Fair Haven’s main thoroughfare. Harvest Fest 2009 raised more than $12,000 to support PTA programs in support of Fair Haven’s public schools. Attendance at Harvest Fest is free and all are welcome. For more information or to sponsor a scarecrow, contact event chair Bennett Coleman at bennettcoleman@mac.com. |
