Walk for Farm Animals set for Sept. 19
PRINCETON — A Farm Sanctuary Walk for Farm Animals will take place Sunday, Sept. 19, in Princeton. The walks are held nationwide each autumn around World Farm Animals Day to raise awareness of animal welfare issues associated with factory farming.
According to a press release from organizers, last year more than 3,600 people participated in 67 walks across the nation, raising a record $330,000. The 2009 Princeton walk also broke past records with over 75 participants and $5,105 raised. This year, over 75 walks are expected to be scheduled across the country with thousands of people participating.
Farm Sanctuary’s walks help educate the public about the reality of factory farming and its impact on animals, the earth and human health. The walks also raise funds to support rescue, advocacy and education programs. Such programs have allowed for the rescue of thousands of animals from cruelty, legislative victories across the nation, and successful public awareness events, according to a press release.
The family-friendly, leisurely paced walk in Princeton will last two hours and is approximately four miles in length. It will start and end at Grover Park behind the Princeton Shopping Center (301 N. Harrison Street,) with the majority of the walk taking place in scenic downtown Princeton. Registration and check-in will begin at 2 p.m., and the walk starts at 3 p.m. Registration is $15 in advance and $20 the day of the walk.
